Ivan Sokachev Memorial

As a senior officer in the Bulgarian Army, he was awarded for his bravery with the Order of Alexander Nevsky, which few Bulgarians have received. Later on he was Bulgaria's representative on the Reparations Commission in Austria. His name is associated with the national hunting movement's extensive history. He also initiated the establishment of a General Federation of Sports Organizations in Bulgaria. He was a member of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Chairman of the Nature and Forest Protection Committee, and First Chairman of the Bulgarian Kennel Association.
He died on February 26, 1949, entrusting his then two-year old granddaughter Svetla Sokachev to help those in need, when she grows up. She embraces this responsibility. In 2007, as one of her initiatives, a national celebration is held in the town of Dolni Chiflik, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Lieutenant Colonel Sokachev, and a memorial in his name is unveiled.
