Grozdyo Zhelev Memorial
Category Monuments 0.00 BGN Duration (minutes): 30Grozdyo Zhelev was born on November 22, 1914 in the village of Sultantsi. He took part in the Resistance Movement during the Second World War. In 1942, Grozdyo Zhelev formed the partisan detachment "Narodna Duma" together with his comrades and became its commander. In 1943, the bunker where the detachment was spending the winter was discovered by the police. After a 15-hour battle, the guerrillas managed to escape from the encirclement. After being persued by the police and gendarmerie, the brave partisan commander was killed near the village of Avren on February 9, 1943.
After the village of Rakovets was renamed to Grozdyovo in 1950, a monument to Grozdyo Zhelev was erected in the village's central square.
