Category Attractions 0.00 BGN Duration (minutes): 60The remains of the fortress complex "Hemski Porti" (also known as "Germeto") are located between the villages of Bulair (about 2 km west) and Golitsa (5.5 km east). The facility was a spectacular complex of three fortresses connected by partition walls, and served to defend the Byzantine Empire from the invasion of the northern tribes. Supposedly, it was built somewhere during the III-IV century.
The total length of the fortification complex was about 3 kilometres and covered an area of about 12 acres. It guarded part of the road between today's Devnya and Aytos with towers along the walls. The thickness of the fortress walls reached up to 3.25 metres in some places.
